Terex towers at work in Milan

Three Terex flat top tower cranes have been working at the Excelsior Hotel Gallia at the Piazza Duca d’Aosta, opposite Milan, Italy’s Stazione Centrale.

The hotel was built in 1932 and is undergoing refurbishment. It was acquired by Qatar-based Katara Hospitality, an international investment fund, which has added an extension to the building. The main contractor for the project is Studio Marco Piva and the renovation work is being carried out by ZH General Construction Company AG (ZH GCC).

Three Terex flat top tower cranes are on site. They are a 5 tonne capacity CTT 121 and two 8 tonne capacity CTT 181s. The cranes have been configured with 55 metre and 65 m jibs, respectively. Jobs for the cranes include lifting and installing building materials, such as plasterboard, bricks and fine marble.

Commenting the project, Severino Montesin, project manager of ZH GCC said, “The CTT 121 has completed all its tasks and has been disassembled because it was installed in a service elevator shaft to support at the start of the project when the lifting requirements were most intense. The two CTT 181s will finish work after the summer. We have a large fleet of Terex tower cranes and, knowing their durability, we decided to purchase these three additional cranes to use also in other future projects. Terex also provided us with very good support during the planning and during the mounting, installation and commissioning phases of the cranes.”

Work began in 2010 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
