Terex US study

22 May 2008

In a case study presented by Steve Filipov in 2007, when he was president of Terex Cranes, he reports that expansion in the energy sector is driving demand for large capacity cranes in North America. Filipov forecasts that, by 2030, the US will need 45% more electricity than current demand. That amounts to 5,648 billion kw-hours, a rise from 3,900 kw-hours today.

On wind power, Filipov added, “The US is rapidly adopting wind power generation. Turbine technology is constantly improving to accommodate greater capacity output and will require cranes with increased lifting capacity for windmill erection.”

In the nuclear power segment, plans are in motion to build 10 plants in the US in the next five years, Filipov explained. “Tremendous demand for energy in the US provides an opportunity for long-term growth.”
