Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has won a group of orders from several container terminal operators for its diesel-electric powered Terex straddle carriers.

One was from Belgian terminal operator PSA Antwerp NV (PSA), which included eleven Terex NSC 634 E straddle carriers. The cranes are due to be delivered in March 2014.

A further order was for MSC Home Terminal, a joint venture of PSA and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The order included four Terex NSC 634 E and three Terex NSC 644 E straddle carriers. The cranes will be fitted with camera systems, a company spokesperson added.

An order was also received from Transnet Port Terminals (TPT), a division of South African logistics group Transnet SOC. In total 22 Terex NSC 644 E straddle carriers were ordered. The first 18 machines are for the port of Durban, South Africa. In total, 13 of the models have been delivered to Durban, with five more scheduled to be delivered in April 2014. The final four are for a container terminal in Capetown and are due for delivery in February 2014.

The straddle carriers for PSA and MSC Home Terminal have a capacity of 50 tonnes, while those for TPT can carry up to 65 tonnes and all the models have diesel-electric drive, a Terex company spokesperson said.

“The Terex NSC 644 E straddle carrier can stack 1 over 3 containers and reaches a speed of 24 km/h, while the Terex NSC 634 E straddle carrier can stack 1 over 2 containers and has a maximum speed of 30 km/h,” the manufacturer added.
