Cable manufacturer Tratos has won a contract to supply reeling cables for cranes at the DP World London Gateway project in the UK.

The reeling cables, from the Tratosflex ESDB range, can accommodate high speed applications. They are a medium voltage rubber insulated and sheathed drum reeling cable and can operate in temperatures from -20 to 60 ºC, the company said.

The cables are suitable both for the ship to shore (STS) and high speed automated stacking cranes, supplied by ZPMC and Cargotec, the company added. The cables supply power, control and signalling functions and will include fibre-optic cables and components.

At the time of writing in early March 2013 several miles of cable had been supplied to the project with a value of more than £1 million (US$ 1.5 million).

London Gateway is the UK’s first major deep-sea container port. It is under construction on the north bank of the River Thames in the Thames Estuary at Thurrock, South East UK. The port is due to open in the last quarter of 2013.
