Tunnel contract
01 May 2008
An Anglo-Norwegian Joint Venture Between Seacore and Eidesvik Subsea has won the contract to carry out a marine site investigation of the seabed under the Strait of Gibraltar, as part of the exploratory work into a possible tunnel linking Spain and Morocco.
Drilling and core sampling will be carried out to a depth of 350 m below seabed, which is itself some 300 m below sea level. The equipment being used for this comprises Seacore's R100 drill rig mounted on the vessel Kingfisher. The R100 was originally designed and built by Seacore for drilling and core sampling of the Lomonosov Ridge in the Arctic, as part of a study into global warming.
