The UK government will merge Infrastructure UK (IUK) and the Major Projects Authority (MPA), coming into formal existence on January 1, 2016, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, has announced.

The new organisation, which will be called the Infrastructure & Projects Authority, will bring together the financing, delivery and assurance of projects. It will report jointly to the Chancellor and the Minister for the Cabinet Office, and its CEO will be Tony Meggs, who is the current CEO of the MPA.

Osborne said, “By bringing together Infrastructure UK with the Major Projects Authority, and creating the new National Infrastructure Commission, we are moving to the next stage in our plan to ensure Britain’s economy gets the transformational projects it needs.”
