Victorian Crane Association appoints field safety liaison officer

11 May 2009

The Victorian Crane Association in Australia has appointed Brent Stacey as field safety liaison officer with the financial assistance of Incolink, the Construction Industry Redundancy Fund.

The new role involves assisting crane hire employees with crane safety familiarisation and working with stakeholders to increase awareness of safe work practices.

Brent brings a practical, hands-on approach. His background is rigging and operating cranes. "This exciting position is now up and running. I have started my visits to various crane yards to introduce myself and the new position to crane owners, crane management staff as well as the men and women in the field. The first port of call for myself is to get to know as many of the VCA members as possible.

"I have already made some appointments to start running a computer-based re-familiarisation programme among members and their employees. While proof of competency is proven by employees showing their ‘tickets', many of those tickets were issued a number of years ago. VCA members have a fantastic opportunity to boost their client compliance levels to exceed requirements through utilisation of the Liaison Officer programme."
