The first tanks to be installed at a tank storage park have been delivered to Vopak Vlaardingen tank storage terminal in the Netherlands.

The tanks were transported by water from a fabrication shop at Willebroek in Belgium. They were transported on a 135 metre vessel to the quayside of Vopak.

Wagenborg Nedlift is responsible for the transport and positioning of the new storage tanks. No less than 52 tanks will be constructed at the new terminal, the company said.

A 500 tonne crawler crane was used to offload the 112 tonne "rusk tins" from the ship onto self propelled modular transporters. A specially constructed road was used for the SPMT trailers to travel to the new tank park. Once there, a 750 tonne crawler crane was used to lift the cargo onto its new foundation.

The remaining units are expected to be installed by Spring 2013.
