Morgan Sindall has hired a two-storey GreenSpace building from Wernick Hire as part of a £70 million

Morgan Sindall has hired a two-storey GreenSpace building from Wernick Hire as part of a £70 million (€84 million) project to regenerate Longbridge town centre in Birmingham.

UK site accommodate specialist Wernick Hire has added a new range of energy efficient accommodation units to its rental portfolio.

The new GreenSpace Eco accommodation units are up to 69% more energy efficient than standard site accommodation.

New government plans to reduce carbon from the construction and operation of the UK’s infrastructure assets have meant that demand has been high for the new units, with several blue chip construction companies, including Morgan Sindall and BAM Construction, having already placed long-term hires.

Wernick has already invested over £7.2 million (€8.6 million) in the new eco units and plans to invest a further £5 million (€6 million) in 2014.

Energy and water saving features include heavy duty door closers to retain heat, uPVC double glazed windows, increased levels of insulation to improve u-values, passive infra-red (PIR) sensors to operate lighting, timed heating systems, dual flush cisterns and non-concussive push taps to reduce water consumption. As a result, the GreenSpace units have been awarded an Energy Performance Asset Rating ‘B’.

Michael Thistlethwaite, managing director of Wernick Hire, said; "There is increasing demand for environmentally responsible site accommodation amongst major contractors, especially since the government published recommendations to reduce carbon in infrastructure, and our GreenSpace products allow customers to reduce their carbon footprint whilst unlocking substantial savings on direct and indirect energy costs”.

Wernick Hire developed the GreenSpace range after seeking industry input from members of the UK Contractors Group (UKCG).
