The 311 from Wirtgen group's Hamm subsidiary is an 11 tonne vibratory compactor built at the company's new factory in Pune, India.

The Wirtgen Group's bC India stand will feature the new 311 rollers from its specialist compaction subsidiary Hamm. The machines are the first units to be built at the company's new factory in Pune.

The 11 tonne class machines were designed in co-operation between the company's German and Indian engineers, and include several important features. The 3 point pendulum articulated joint gives the machine excellent driving and steering characteristics, as well as unsurpassed directional stability. In addition, there is a modern display to simplify operation and keep the driver informed about the machine's condition.

Power comes from a water-cooled 76 kW Cummins engine, which sits under the carbon fibre bonnet. The sleek curves of this hood help ensure excellent visibilitiy - not something that can be said about many other compactors on the market in India.

The vibrating compactor is available in three variants: in the standard version with rear-axle drive as the "311" model, the "311D" model with additional driven drums and the "311P" model with padfoot drums.

"With the Hamm 311, we have developed a model that is designed specifically for the Indian market. This single drum compactor corresponds to the high standards of quality of the Wirtgen Group, but is manufactured locally so that the pricing allows us to prevail on this highly competitive market," said Wirtgen India managing director Ramesh Palagiri.

New facilities

The company's new factory in Pune comprises a 2700 m2 administration centre and training building alongside a 3600 m2 factory, built to the same standard as Wirtgen's production facilities in Germany. It includes a blasting system, a paint facility and a spare parts depot, while machines are assembled on a 60 m long production line.

Series production of Hamm's new Type 311 single-drum compactors will start shortly.
