World Bank finances Cameroon hydropower project

The World Bank has agreed to finance US$ 132 million for Cameroon's Lom Pangar Hydropower Project.
The zero-interest loan will fund work to enable the Lom Pangar dam to store water during the rainy season and later release it during dry periods. This will increase the year-round hydropower generation capacity on the Sanaga River by +40%.
The fund will also finance a 120 MW increase in electricity generation at two existing hydropower plants as well as the creation of a new 30 MW power plant which will provide reliable access to electricity in eastern Cameroon, including 2,400 newly connected households.
Work will also be carried out to help develop additional hydropower plants in the Sanaga River Basin.
