Chinese construction equipment manufacturer XCMG has launched an online sales initiative in co-operation with e-commerce website Alibaba.

XCMG is offering a wide range of new equipment through the site, including concrete pumps and placing booms, earth moving equipment, cranes, road building equipment, piling equipment, on-highway vehicles and parts. The company’s homepage on Alibaba is available in Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese. The website is also offering 7% - 8% discounts off four models of truck-mounted concrete placing booms.

According to International Construction’s Yellow Table ranking of global construction equipment manufacturers, XCMG is China’s third largest player behind Zoomlion and Sany, with revenues last year of US$ 4.6 billion. This figure saw it ranked 11th in global terms.

Alibaba is a Chinese e-commerce website founded in 1999. Although it conducts most of its business in China, this year saw it listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Data provided by the NYSE says Alibaba Group has annual sales of US$ 10.3 billion, and a market capitalisation of US$ 284 billion.
