A 4,000 tonne capacity class crawler crane from XCMG has broken a lifting record at a coal liquefaction project in Shenhua Ningxia, China.

The XGC88000 heavy lift lattice boom crawler, built in China, lifted a Fischer-Tropsch oil synthesis reactor into place. The reactor had a diameter of 9.6 metres and a height of 54.4 m. It weighed 2,155 tonnes and took 2.5 hours to install into position.

The 88,000 tonne-metre rated crawler was configured with 84 m of boom. The reactor was tilted up and rotated before being installed on its foundation an operating radius of 23 m and with the 4,000 tonner at 71.1% of its capacity. Tailing was a 1,000 tonne capacity crawler crane.

The Shenhua Ningxia project is being carried out by Shenhua Group and Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group. The facility will have the annual capacity to produce 4.04 million tonnes of oil and olefin, a company spokesperson said.

The crawler make a further seven similar lifts at the project, a company spokesperson said.
