Zeppelin rental keeps station reconstruction on track

02 August 2016

German rental company Zeppelin Rental worked with contractors Ed. Züblin, Strabag Rail and Eberhard Pöhner, among others, to upgrade Würzburg’s central rail hub and make it more accessible.

The project involved renovating the platforms and construction of a new 8m wide underpass, and the contractors used machines supplied by Zeppelin Rental’s local Würzburg depot.

One challenge was the fact that large parts of Würzburg are classified as water protection areas, and extra care must be taken not to contaminate the drinking water supply.

Zeppelin Rental supplied mini excavators and wheeled loaders that ran on bio-fuel – rented machines included the 18 tonne operating weight Cat M316 excavator, the Cat 303.5 ECR mini excavator, the Cat 906H2 wheeled loader, which is stage IIIB emissions-compliant, and Bobcat S70 skid steer loaders.

Other equipment supplied by Zeppelin Rental included three mini conveyor belts to support the transport of materials in bulk, plate compactors, compressors, dewatering pumps, generators, hoists, breakers and site dumpers.

The contracting authority is DB Station & Service, and the project is scheduled for completion in 2018.
