Historic Long X Bridge demolished

Veit & Company’s demolition of the historic Long X Bridge in North Dakota, USA, was shortlisted for the World Demolition Awards 2021.

The high truss bridge, which spanned the Little Missouri River, was built in 1959 and had reached the end of its useful life.

Veit & Company’s scope of works, which began demolition in late 2020, included the removal of the bridge superstructure and piers, environmental protection and the salvaging of a portion of the bridge for reuse elsewhere.

The project saw the company recycle around 3,600 t of concrete and 770 t of structural steel waste.

Long X Bridge has now been replaced with a wider, four lane bridge of the same name.
