The Masdar Development

The Masdar Development, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), will be the world's first zero carbon, zero waste city, according to Abu Dhabi's government. The first project as a result of the Masdar Initiative, the 6 million m2 sustainable development uses the traditional planning principals of a walled city, together with existing technologies, to achieve a carbon neutral and zero waste community. It will be a centre for the development of new ideas for energy production. Construction started in 2007 and the development is expected to be completed in 2023.
