Chinese state-owned contractor China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) has been awarded two contracts worth a total of CNY 13.2 billion (US$ 2.38 billion) for transportation projects in the provinces of Shandong and Hebei.

The largest contract was for a CNY 10 billion (US$ 1.6 billion) project to build transport facilities for the planned “Blue Silicon Valley” (BSV) project in Qingdao city, Shandong province. The BSV project envisages developing a new marine technology and science centre by reclaiming 443 km2 of land from the seas surrounding the Qingdao city area. The aim is to develop the area into an economic zone by 2015.

Separately, CRCC was awarded a CNY 3.2 billion (US$ 524 million) contract to construct the first section of a new metro line in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei province. Metro Line 3 will run from Erzhong Station to New Shijiazhuang Station, and is planned to also provide a link to Zhengding New District in Shijiazhuang.
