Major expansion for Xylem

Pump manufacturer Xylem said it aimed to invest US$35 million (€32 million) to expand its operations in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
And the company has also expanded its pump rental capabilities across Europe and South Africa in a further multi-million euro investment.
The MENA investment, planned for 2015 to 2018, would see increased localisation of products and building local capabilities, including a local manufacturing plant and offices in the UAE, Oman and Qatar.
The company said it was building a new manufacturing facility in Dubai which would host a training and learning centre. Xylem said it would move to the new office in Dubai later this year, adding that the facility would serve as the headquarters for its regional operations.
Xylem said it would also seek to create strategic partnerships with government and private entities in the region to address pressing regional water issues.
For instance, Xylem and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, announced a research collaboration to establish sustainability indicators such as energy and cost performance of processes and equipment for water, wastewater and water transport and treatment facilities.
The collaboration would see key performance indicators established through a one-year study that aims to help policy-makers, regulators and those responsible for specifying and purchasing equipment and processes in the region to make informed decisions.
Europe and South Africa
Meanwhile, Xylem has expanded its pump rental capabilities across Europe and South Africa with a further multi-million euro investment.
It said this initiative would enable it to better meet the market demand from construction, industry, municipal and mining customers across both regions.
Xylem said it was opening expanded pump rental and service hubs in Paris, France; Bremen, Germany; and Madrid, Spain; that would work in close partnership to serve customers across Europe.
In addition, a new pump rental and service hub in Johannesburg, South Africa, was also established.
Xylem’s pump rental portfolio includes diesel and electric surface mounted Godwin pumps, and submersible electric Flygt pumps, as well as technologies, such as Godwin Field Smart Technology, which enables remote monitoring and control for optimal and proactive asset usage.
