Soho Place concept on Tottenham Court Road

British contractor Laing O’Rourke has signed a new contract worth £195 million (€228.24 million) for a project on Tottenham Court Road in London, UK.

The development to be constructed is known as Soho Place and is intended to be a mixed-use scheme, above the new Tottenham Court Road rail development.

The project will comprise of a ten-storey building catering for retail and office space. It will also include a nine-storey building that will be split into three office floors positioned on top of a 600-seat theatre.

Main construction has begun with work on piling that has to be carried out above and around underground obstacles like the tube lines below the site.

Richard Baldwin, head of development for Derwent London, the company behind the scheme, said, “We are very excited about the prospects for Soho Place, which will be a great building in one of the best locations in London.

“We are also very pleased to be working with Laing O’Rourke, who we believe have the capabilities to deal with the complexity of the site.”

Laing O’Rourke is currently working on delivering Derwent London’s 16-storey Brunel Building, an office development in London, due for completion in the spring of 2019.

The Soho Place development is expected to be completed in November 2021.
