Demand in sectors such as entertainment and events has been hit by cancellations and postponements, and shelter-in-place directives are also impacting demand in certain localities and states.

However, with the company’s diversified fleet, Larry Silber, President and CEO of Herc, said, “We are currently responding to hospitals and healthcare facilities with temporary structures, portable power and lighting, climate control and similar equipment.

“We are supporting the public sector with equipment that helps our communities address urgent safety and health measures.

“We are providing material handling and related equipment to warehouse distribution centres to support their operations.

“We are helping electric, water and other utilities maintain their vital services.”

While Herc’s depots are currently open, the company said that in the event of a suspension of activities at any of its branches, it will redirect customer support to its nearest unaffected branches.

The logistics of transporting equipment were said to be largely unaffected, except that enhanced hygiene and sanitation practices are now part of the company’s routine.

Within the company’s operations, a number of adjustments have been made to minimise physical interactions. These include curb-side pick-up and drop-off of equipment at Herc’s depots, requiring vendors to call before they visit, and remote working for staff who can do so.

Herc has assured its customers that it has experience operating under extreme and emergency conditions, for instance during natural disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires and floods.

Silber said, “Now, more than ever, our purpose – to equip our customers and communities to build a brighter future – inspires us to carry out our essential role in helping to conquer the challenges of the current crisis.”
