Sarens helps renovate in central Amsterdam

Heavy lift and transport specialist Sarens was roped in by Max Bögl Nederland B.V. to perform the transport and lift of concrete sections at the Amsterdam Central square.
The area on the center side of Amsterdam Central is getting a make-over. The entire area is getting redesigned with more greenery, more space for pedestrians and cyclists, and more water. There will be a bicycle shed for 7000 bicycles under the water and all tram stops and tram tracks are getting renewed. Work on the redesign of the station area started in early 2018 and will take approximately five years to complete.
Sarens crew co-ordinated with the client and visited the site a week ago to meticulously plan the operation. The lift and transport had to be carried out through the confined spaces and live excavation and drilling work, so each move had to be efficiently planned.
In Amsterdam, we had a maximum permissible ground pressure of 20kN / m². The team decided to deploy:
- LTM 1130 for loading
- Flat trailer for transport
- AC 250 for placement
To realize the ground pressure values a considerable plateau was made of bulkheads and steel valves.
Sarens had to transport and lift a prefabricated concrete tube weighing 28T and measuring 7m x 2.85m x 1.65m. Our crew of 5 and the equipment were on site for around 12 hours and safely executed the operation.
