When Nottingham, UK, based Johnson Services won a contract to handle waste produced from a new tram project in that city centre, they decided to add to their screening capacity to ensure they could handle the additional work.

A Terex Finlay 883 Reclaimer was therefore ordered after detailed consideration as is now being used as a primary screen for the incoming inert spoil, which is then crushed and reused in concrete and various other construction projects in the area as a secondary aggregate. The machine is also being used as a primary screen to process incinerated bottom ash before further recycling is carried out using the company’s fixed plant. With the nearest landfill a 200 mile round trip away, as a result Johnsons is making a considerable saving in fuel costs as well as lowering its carbon footprint.

The 883 can process up to 1,000 tonnes a day and is powered by a Stage IIIB/Euro 4 compliant Cat C4.4 diesel. Director and founder Steve Johnson said of his recent acquisition: ““The 883 is very flexible and will certainly cover everything that we need it to. We can change the decks on it fairly easy which means I can take it off one product and put it on to another fairly quickly.”
