Liugong has started deliveries of the first machines it has manufactured with its new Guangxi Cummins L9.3 engine. The engine is the product of a 50:50 joint venture between Liugong and Cummins, and the companies said the 9.3 litre, 162 kW unit was designed with 5 tonne bucket load wheeled loaders in mind and has been optimised for their duty cycles.

The first loaders to be fitted with the engine are Liugong’s ZL50CN, 855N, 856 models, which have a Tier 2 emissions compliant version of the L9.3 on-board. A Tier 3 version is also available.

“We could not be happier with the results of this endeavour and with the end result” said Liugong Machinery president Yu Chuanfen. “These machines have been tested and running in the Chinese domestic market for more than a year. The results have been excellence - the performance, productivity, reliability, and the durability. Liugong and Cummins have worked together to create a new standard of cooperation in the industry.”

The Guangxi Cummins joint venture was set up in 2011 in Liugong’s hometown Liuzhou, China focuses on designing and producing fully localised engines for construction equipment in emerging markets. Production started last year in 2013, and the immediate target is to reach a volume of 50,000 engines per year. The intention is to supply both Liugong along with other equipment manufacturers.
