SIA appoints Steve Smith as president

At its annual conference in Philadelphia this July, the Scaffold Industry Association's former president Bill Breault handed his responsibilities down to Edge International's president, Steve Smith. Smith spoke at the president's gala about his plans for the coming years, which include the association changing names and an overall review of the associations' 10-year plan.

Smith said two big areas for geared for immediate change include removing scaffolding and access from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's top 10 citations list and establishing a licensed, professional trade status for the industry.

He also spoke about improving, updating and reviewing the SIA's training programs and handbooks, as well as getting the documents translated into Spanish.
