The Golden Ears Bridge will be the most significant improvement to the Greater Vancouver road system since the completion of the Alex Fraser Bridge in 1986.
The Golden Ears Bridge project is an initiative of TransLink, the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority. The scheduled opening date for the bridge is mid-2009. The timing of all construction activities is subject to permitting and approval by government authorities.
Construction of the CA$ 956 million (US$ 770 million), 970 m-long Golden Ears Bridge, close to Vancouver, Canada started in July 2006 and is due for completion later this year, in time for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in February. Richard High reports.
