Lighting tower manufacturer Towerlight is bringing to Europe the articulated boom AST8000 lighting tower it developed for open-pit mining applications in Australia.

Its articulated, rotating boom places the four, individually-switched, 2000 W, metal halide lamps up to 8.15 m high, as well as over or under the edge of the spot on which its trailer sits. That directional and positional flexibility, said the company, puts up to 95% of generated light (an average of 20 Lux over 3800 m2) on the job. Towerlight products are made in Italy but sales and marketing are based in the UK.

A Kubota V1505 diesel engine drives the model's 16 kVA gen set, which can also deliver 32 A, 380 V three-phase and 16 A, 230 V single-phase power through outlets. The boom is rated to withstand 80 km/hr winds and mounts on a non-homologated, restricted speed trailer.

Josh Llewellyn, chairman of Towerlight plc, told IRN in Bologna that he expects increasing specification of light levels on work sites by government authorities, citing the UK's Health and Safety Executive activities as an indicator of a trend.
