Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has been awarded a 160 billion won (US$137 million) contract for work on two power plants in Egypt.
In the Korean firm’s first successful bid for contacts in the country since 2010 – when the firm won a 400 billion won deal on the El Ain El Sokhna Power Plant – Doosan will build and install a gas turbine at the under-construction Assiut Power Plant, on behalf of the Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company.
By April 2020, it has also agreed to install a generator at the Cairo West Power Plant, run by the Cairo Electricity Production Company.
An official for the Korean firm said, "Doosan Heavy outbid global power equipment giants GE [General Electric], Siemens and MHPS [Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems] for this contract, proving its competitiveness in overseas markets.”
He added, "We will strive to make similar deals in other regions such as North Africa and Asia."
