Plan to attend the Specialized Transportation Symposium

The 2019 Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) Specialized Transportation Symposium will be held in Houston, Texas, USA, from 19 to 22 February.

Speakers from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Oceania aim to offer fresh perspectives on the challenges of moving oversize and overweight loads. New for the 2019 event is a day of concurrent educational tracks on two important topics: safety and permits. The interactive format will encourage best practices and practical application of tactics to everyday issues.

Keynote speaker starting the event will be Kevin “Dauber” Lacz, a former US Navy SEAL, a New York Times best-selling author, and a co-star of American Sniper. Lacz will talk about the pitfalls of becoming too comfortable in a situation and how to avoid stagnancy.

The opening session is entitled Perspectives from the global corridors. Experts from around the world will compare the state of specialized transport in Europe, Asia Pacific, Central America and Oceania. Each will give their own perspective on the shared challenges faced everywhere.

The panellists on the opening session will be: Jonathan Bhana-Thomson, New Zealand Heavy Haulage Association chief executive; Steven Dunnewijk, Mammoet general manager; André Friderici, a director at Friderici Special and at the European Association of Abnormal Road Transport and Mobile Cranes (ESTA); Mathias Rehe, Daco Heavy Lift De Centro America president.

Another session will be What your customer is saying about you. How can you be a better specialized carrier? Learn best practices in gaining work and being successful with manufacturers and shippers. Panellists for this session will be: Marco Poisler, UTC Overseas executive director; Mike Udermann, Superior Industries manager, transportation and logistics.

Then there is Border crossings in specialized transport. Learn how to navigate the new NAFTA agreement, called the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA, and hear best practices for border crossings. Speakers are Ed Bernard, Precision Specialized Division vice president, and Ernesto Gaytan, Super Transporte Internacional president.

OS/OW across the pond: Treading the same water

The world is becoming a smaller place and it is natural that transport companies become more international, broadening their holdings often beyond their domestic borders. This makes it increasingly important to understand the complexities and opportunities for specialized transport in North America and Europe and the shared nexus of safety. Speakers for this session will be: Ton Klijn, ESTA director and Steven Todd, SC&RA vice president of transportation.
