Mecalac Construction Equipment UK Ltd said it increased its UK sales of backhoe loaders in 2018 by 34%, with export sales also rising. It said this growth was far in excess of overall backhoe market growth in the UK.

Mecalac said the increase was the result of a “strong national infrastructure project pipeline, [which is] driving market demand for rental-tough, mobile excavating equipment.”

Paul Macpherson, UK Sales and Marketing Director at Mecalac CEUK, said market research showed that growth would continue in the UK in the coming months, and that there was an encouraging long-term outlook.

“At Mecalac, we’ve noticed this impact, especially in the context of backhoe loader sales. A year-on-year increase of more than 34% is a considerable success, while rising export sales against the background of a weak global market highlights the suitability of our product portfolio.”

The French company has been producing and selling backhoes – as well as site dumpers and compaction equipment – since its acquisition of Terex’s construction equipment business and factory in Coventry, UK at the end of 2016.

Macpherson said Mecalac was committed to further developing its range and that there were a number of product updates and technology additions this year. The company’s backhoe line-up comprises three models – the entry level TLB870, the TLB890 and the top-of-the-range TLB990.
