New United Rentals App

United Rentals has launched a new mobile App that is intended to help improve worksite productivity.

The new United Rentals Mobile App is a gateway to the company’s cloud-based jobsite performance tool Total Control, which gives visibility of both rented and owned equipment in a customer’s fleet. The App helps to extend those capabilities to additional workers on the jobsite.

Designed to help customers better manage their fleets and improve the efficiency of their businesses, the App provides each user with a personalised dashboard through which they can monitor their equipment in real time, track rentals and share equipment across jobsites.

“Providing a mobile App that gives [our customers] access to the main information that they need, gives them access to Total Control through the mobile App, is critical,” says Chris Hummel, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of United Rentals.

One important feature of the new App is the way it streamlines the off-renting process. Customers can return equipment with the click of a button at any time of the day, and they receive instant confirmation, decreasing the risk of discrepancies.

The new United Rentals Mobile App replaces the company’s UR Jobsite Mobile App and is part of a broader consolidation effort to give a more consistent customer experience across United’s various digital products.

“All of our digital properties are now adopting the same framework, the same look and feel, the same navigations,” says Hummel.

This is part of an effort to encourage more customers to use United’s e-digital platforms.

“Driving adoption – like any new technology – is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome,” says Hummel, “And one of the primary hurdles is getting it into people’s hands.”

The number of customers using United’s e-commerce offering rose from approximately 11,000 in 2017 to about 31,000 in 2018. Although Hummel does not expect the figure to triple every year, he says it is still growing significantly.

The App operates on Apple iOS and Android devices, and it is due to become available in the Apple iOS store and on Google Play in early 2020.
