Online auction company for used heavy equipment, Iron Planet, has appointed Simon Rodgers as Northern European sales director covering UK, Ireland, Germany, Benelux, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe.

Tom Cornell, IronPlanet Managing Director Europe added: "We are delighted to welcome Simon to our European Sales Team. It is a pleasure to bring someone on board with such deep experience in the construction machinery sector and such a varied network of contacts throughout northern Europe."

Mr Rodgers joins IronPlanet from Volvo London Truck and Bus where he served as sales director. Prior to this role, he was initially sales director (UK & Ireland) and more recently sales director (Worldwide Heavyline and Compaction) for JCB Group. Mr Rodgers has also formerly held senior sales management positions with DaimlerChrysler and Toyota.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Rodgers said, "During my time at JCB and Volvo, I became increasingly aware of IronPlanet as the leading marketplace for used construction machinery. With global auctions every week and a faster time to cash IronPlanet offers a more efficient marketplace for sellers."

Simon Rodgers has an HND in Business Studies from Salford College of Technology. He has also attended the Management Diploma course at Henley Business School and completed the Accelerated Management course at Cranfield Business School.
