Strėlė Logistics, a crane rental company in Mažeikiai, Lithuania, has taken delivery of a 500 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 wheeled mobile telescopic crane.

It is claimed by the company as the largest capacity crane in the Baltic States. Lifting height is 134 metres and it can work at a radius of 100 m. It cost €2.9 million (US$ 3 million), the company said.

Kęstutis Slavinskas, Strėlė Logistics chairman of the board, said, “Every year we invest approximately €2 million [US$2.1 million] in the renewal of our park, purchase of new cranes and increase of the number of rented mechanisms. However, this year’s investment in the acquisition of the new truck-mounted telescopic crane of the highest lifting capacity is the largest in the entire history of our company.”

Strėlė Logistics ordered the crane with 50 m telescopic boom, additional 91 m jib, 165 tonnes of counterweight and a capacity enhancement system. Order to delivery was around three months, the company said.

The mobile crane will be used for a number of tasks, including chimney, boiler and reactor installation. It will also be used for assembling bridge sections and maintenance works on wind turbines.

Slavinskas said, “There were no cranes of this size and type in the Baltic states until now. When required, they used to be delivered from Germany, Poland or Finland. However, delivery, installation and administration costs of cranes and their equipment used to be very high. Our company has plans to use the new crane in all three Baltic States, so we will be able to offer reasonable prices and flexible and fast implementation of lifting projects.”

The LTM 1500-8.1 joins a fleet of 35 cranes, bringing the company’s overall load moment rating to 11,017 tonne-metres.
