Atlas Copco's record breaker

25 March 2008

Weighing in at 10 tonnes and designed for use on excavators from 85 tonnes upwards, the HB 10000 is aimed at primary breaking applications and as an alternative to drilling and blasting in quarrying applications.

The HB 10000 features all the technical elements that Atlas Copco has developed for the rest of its HB product lineup. These include StartSelect, which allows the breaker's start up and shut down behaviour to be tailored to operating conditions, AutoControl, which ensures optimised balance of impact energy and frequency to maximise percussive performance and PowerAdapt, which automatically shuts down the tool when oil pressure is too high. It also features ContiLube II automatic lubrication and DustProtector II, which features a combination of multiple strippers that prevents abrasive dust from penetrating the lower breaker section.

While it might be thought that demand for such a large breaker might be quite limited, especially in the demolition role, as contractors come across larger and stronger concrete structures the HB 10000 should provide an ideal solution. Atlas Copco is currently being coy about the detailed specification for the unit, but D&Ri will report on the tool in the follow–up s Bauma and provide a more informative report
