The contract to build the 18,000-seat Yas Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, has been awarded to BAM International – the operating company of Royal Bam Group, active outside Western Europe.

It is part of a AED12 billion (US$3.27 billion) Yas Bay development scheme on the southern end of Yas Island.

The arena was designed by US-based design, architecture, engineering and planning firm HOK, with support from UK-based Pascall+Watson.

HOK also designed the adjacent arena retail and dining destination along the boardwalk.

The arena will be used to host events in a temperature-controlled environment, including gigs and sports events by Flash Entertainment.

Works have already begun and are expected to be completed by November 2019.
