PAC (Powered Access Certification) the UK, company specialising in machine certification and technical advice has a new technical officer, David Johns B.Sc.

Mr Johns worked for 20 years at Simon Engineering (Dudley), a leading manufacturer of hydraulic platforms: he joined as a draughtsman in 1969, working his way to contracts and engineering manager in 1989. Subsequently, Mr Johns held a number of senior directorial appointments with engineering companies in the West Midlands area of the UK until 1995, when he established his own engineering and fabrication company, in which he still maintains an interest.

During his time with Simon, Mr Johns was involved in the design and manufacture of a wide range of truck mounted platforms, which sold in civilian and fire fighting form throughout the world and his work there culminated with the Simon S and SS600 Models - believed to be the world's first 60 m (200 ft) truck mounted aerial work platform. These were popular among the plant hire industry and came to public notice during the Chernobyl incident.

Paul Adorian, managing director of PAC, said, "David brings his huge amount of hands-on design and manufacturing experience directly related to our industry and is making a valuable contribution to both our certification and technical advisory service.
