Main Contractor Muesing RM is using a Liebherr LRB 155 piling and drilling rig, fitted with a Liebherr H85 hydraulic hammer, during construction of an anchored sheet pile wall on the Rothensee Canal, Germany.

The € 3,5 million wall, has an eight month construction schedule and will act as flood protection to the surrounding farmland. Round steel tie rods, with 500, 4 m long sheet piles, will secure the wall. Construction started in June and once complete in January 2007 it will be fitted with ladders and stairways for access and maintenance.

The 590 m wall consists of sheet piles up to 17,6 m long. About 620 are being driven through the layer of clay, 4 to 7 m thick, which pervades the surrounding countryside.

The 450 kW LRB 155, which is rented from Liebherr-Werk Nenzing, is fitted with a 24 m long hydraulic leader, which replaces the pile guide. It can be adjusted vertically and horizontally, before and during installation. The H85 hammer has a 7 tonne drop weight and a maximum blow rating of 83 kNm.

Fitted with a swing leader with a range of +/- 90°, the rig also comes with a process data recording (PDE) system.
