Foster + Partners has won the international competition to create La Ciudad del Motor – Motor City – a new leisure facility centre in Alcañiz, Aragon, Spain.

The building, inspired by the sleek, aerodynamic lines of racing cars features a lightweight roof that will appear to float over the entire complex.

In an effort to reduce its energy requirements Motor City will use passive environmental controls as well as harnessing renewable energy sources. Photovoltaic cells and solar thermal tubes will be mounted on the roof, together with an array of wind turbines.
