Small increase for European construction

An increase in the seasonally-adjusted figures for production in the construction sector was seen in November 2017 for both the Eurozone and the EU28, with small rises over the previous month, and larger ones over November 2016

In November 2017 compared with October 2017, seasonally-adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 0.5% in the Eurozone, and by 0.6% in the EU28, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

In October 2017, production in construction fell by 0.3% in the Eurozone and by 0.5% in the EU28.

In November 2017, compared with November 2016, production in construction increased by 2.7% in both zones.

November 2017’s increase of 0.5% in construction in the Eurozone over October 2017, was said to be thanks to civil engineering rising by 1.1% and building construction by 0.3%.

In the EU28, the increase of 0.6% was a result of building construction rising by 0.8%, although civil engineering fell by 0.3%.

Among Member States with available data, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Poland, with a rise of 3.2%, Slovenia, up 2.2%, and the Netherlands, which saw a rise of 1.8%.

Decreases were found in Hungary, with a drop of 1.5%, and France, which was down 0.6%.

The year-on-year increase of 2.7% in the Eurozone in November 2017 was said to be a result of civil engineering rising by 3.0% and building construction by 2.7%.

In the EU28, the increase of 2.7% was thanks to building construction rising by 3.3%, and civil engineering by 1.1%.

The highest increases for Member States with data available were recorded in Hungary, up 30.7%, Slovenia, with a rise of 21.2%, and Poland, 16.0%.

Falls were recorded in Romania, down 4.1%, and France, with a fall of 0.2%.
