Acapulco bound
15 April 2008
Earthmoving contractor Tres Construyendo is using two JCB JS330LC excavators and four JCB 722 ADTs to move over 3 million tonnes of earth and rock during construction of a 20 km, four-lane highway near Acapulco, Mexico.
Working at over 1300 m above sea level each JS330 is excavating 3300 tonnes/day, and then loading the ADTs, which has a short haul route of about 300 m down steep inclines before unloading into a 150000m3 holding area.
The material will be used as fill during the later stages of the road construction.
In a tropical climate with arduous ground conditions, the JCB fleet's fuel efficiency and service support are proving impressive: the excavators are achieving 25 litres/hour and the ADTs 12 litres/hour.
