Acciona wins €226m contract for Polish highway

Mostostal Warszawa, a Polish subsidiary of the Spanish contractor Acciona, has been awarded a €226 million contract to build a section of Poland’s S-19 Expressway.

The scope of work along the 12.5km-long section of highway, includes seven flyovers, eight bridges and eight road viaducts, between Iskrzynia and Domaradz in the south of the country.

Within the contract, awarded to Mostostal Warszawa by the General Directorate for National Roads, the company will also construct two motorway service centres will also be built, as well as delivering a traffic management system and environmental protection devices.

Mostostal Warszawa says this particular section of the project represents a significant engineering challenge as it crosses an area with a complex geological structure and requires the construction of a number of pre-engineering structures, including pillars rising to 30m.

Completion of the project is due in 39 months from the start of construction, with the exception of the winter months (December 1 to March 31).

Acciona is already working on a 10.3km section of the S-19, in the north of Poland. This €500 million project includes a 2.2km tunnel, being constructed with a 15m-diameter tunnel boring machine.
