The AECOM-STV joint venture (JV) has won a US$ 18 million contract for New Jersey Transit Board's Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement project.

The JV will provide construction management services for the estimated US$ 1.7-billion project that will replace the two-track, 99-year-old Portal Bridge swing span over the Hackensack River on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor.

Two new two-track and three-track fixed bridges will replace the existing structure, on the busiest section of passenger rail mainline in North America.

Construction is expected to start later this year with completion due in 2017.
