29 April 2008
Johannesburg International Airport - which will be renamed OR Tambo International this month - is currently undergoing a ZAR 3.5 billion (US$ 458 million) refurbishment project. The upgrading project is split into seven separate contracts and will enable the airport to handle up to 23.4 million passengers a year, almost +50% more than its current capacity.
Work at the airport includes construction of a new central terminal, new aprons to accommodate the Airbus A380, new international arrival and departure piers, new car parks and a new Gautrain station.
