IC regrets to announce that crane industry pioneer Alf Sparrow died on 20 February 2012 at home in the UK after a short illness. Born in August 1921, the lifting legend celebrated his 90th Birthday in 2011. He was former chairman of crane rental company GW Sparrow & Sons.

A memorial service will be at Holy Trinity Church, Church Road, Combe Down, Somerset, BA2 5JJ on Monday 5 March at 2 p.m. and afterwards at Combe Grove Manor Hotel, Monkton Combe, BA2 7HU.

As a thanksgiving for Alf's life there will be a retiring collection to Talking Books - Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
