Italian manufacturer Oil & Steel has appointed newly formed Mantis Access as its sole distributor for the UK and Ireland.

The fledgling company has also launched the Mantis MD21 AWS, based on a 6 tonne rigid frame dumper with 4 wheel drive. The lift is an Oil & Steel articulated 2112 Snake Smart with 21 m working height. It was first shown at June’s Vertikal Days in the UK.

The rental division of Mantis Access was launched in January 2013 and is an umbrella company of Mantis Cranes Ireland. Its range includes tracked platforms up to 40 m and vehicle-mounted machines from 14 m on 4x4 and 3.5 tonne chassis up to 60 m mounted on larger trucks.

Concerning the new Mantis MD21 AWS a company spokesperson said, “It is designed with tree clearance contractors in mind with good working height and outreach, fully proportional hydraulics and A-frame jacklegs.”

Other features include stabilisers deployed inside the width of the vehicle and a comfortable driving position in a semi-enclosed cab. It also includes front and rear lights and a tow hitch for pulling a chipper.

“Compared to a straight telescopic platform, the pantograph makes it possible to overcome overhead obstacles and obtain greater outreach,” continued the spokesperson.
