Crane rental company, All Erection and Crane Rental, Pennsylvania, USA, helped lift a giant rubber duck on to the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, USA.

The duck, which has so far toured New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Holland, Hong Kong, and France, was designed by artist Florentijn Hofman. It was lifted onto the river by a 110 US tonne (tonne) Grove TMS9000 truck crane.

For the lift the duck was inflated to a height of 12 metres and placed onto 6.3 tonne pontoons.

Michael Liptak, president of the All Family of Companies, said, “It’s definitely one of the more unusual lifts we’ve accomplished. I’m so glad we had the chance to participate in an event that is bringing joy to so many people. We’ve done a lot of lifts over the years, but this was one of the most fun, by far.”

Commenting on his idea, which is designed to promote peace, Hofman said, “The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate between people and doesn't have a political connotation.”
