Wallmann in Hamburg has taken delivery of its second Liebherr LHM 500 mobile harbour crane

Wallmann & Co. at the port of Hamburg in Germany has added a second Liebherr LHM 500 mobile harbour crane to further improve its operation.

As a multi-purpose terminal, it needs to be equipped for complete project handling of heavy cargoes and entire industrial plants. Performance, efficiency and reliability of the first LHM 500, purchased in 2005, helped make the decision.

Lifting capacity is 140 tonnes and a maximum radius is 51 m. At its maximum outreach the LHM 500 lifts 42.2 tonnes.

Delivery of this latest crane increases the total number of Liebherr mobile harbour cranes in the Port of Hamburg to 10. These include the Buss-Group (4 x LHM 400 and LHM 500), HHLA (LHM 150), Rhenus-Midgard (LHM 320) and Unikai (LHM 400).

Adding this latest delivery to two others in Stralsund and Bremen, increases Liebherr's market share for mobile harbour cranes in Germany to almost 80%, the manufacturer claims.

For tandem lifts Liebherr developed its Synchronising Crane Control System. It allows two LHM cranes to be operated in tandem by one crane driver and for the maximum crane capacity to be used. Two LHM 500s will be able to lift up to 280 tonnes in one heavy lift.
