While the Heavy industry concept of gantry operation remains constant, the applications continue to grow and develop. Manufacturers continue to add features such as power rollers, digital monitoring, synchronous movement and side-shift systems. These features make the use of the tools more reliable and "slick" but the primary purpose remains to lift and carry heavy items. Barnhart has incorporated the hydraulic gantry into its inventory and employs over a dozen gantry systems across the country from 300 to 800 US tons (268 to 714 tonnes) in capacity. The gantry systems are often combined with other systems such as Barnhart's Modular Lift Tower (MLT), strand jacks and large hoists to provide efficient travel functions. The systems are even used as the tailing crane in certain situations. Barnhart has successfully moved the gantry from the category of machinery moving into the heavy industrial sector.
