Messe München International (MMI) has announced plans to launch a construction machinery exhibition in South Africa. The first Bauma Africa is scheduled for September 2013 in Johannesburg.

MMI says the inaugural event is expected to attract around 200 exhibitors across 20000 m2 of exhibition space. The exhibition will have a focus across the construction equipment, building materials machinery and mining equipment sectors. Visitors are expected to be drawn mainly from sub-Saharan Africa.

"South Africa is a market with a future which offers great potential for the construction machinery industry. Messe München has demonstrated a high level of expertise in the sector, through the organisation of construction machinery trade fairs not only at its based in Munich, but also abroad," said Messe München GmbH managing director Eugen Egetenmeir.

MMI organises the Bauma exhibition, which is held every three years in Munich as well as the Bauma China exhibition, held every two years in Shanghai. It is co-organiser of the bC India exhibition, along with the US-based Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). bC India was held for the first time in Mumbai in February 2011 and the AEM is an official supporter of Bauma Africa.
