Bohnet transports 310 tonne gas turbine

Heavy load hauler Bohnet in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, has transported a 310 tonne gas turbine from Wallmann & Co in Hamburg to the port of Hamburg.

The Siemens gas turbine was transported from logistics provider Wallmann to the port facility using 13 new InterCombi axle lines from Scheuerle. At the port the turbine was loaded onto a cargo ship.

The turbine, 11.00 x 4.80 x 4.90 metres, was lifted onto a 30 x 4.80 x 6 m Scheuerle InterCombi combination trailer. Complete with gooseneck the cargo weighed 380 tonnes. The trailer has a 36 tonne maximum axle load, a 650 mm lifting height, and steering angles of up to 60 degrees.

Once at the port, windy and wet weather made the transfer to the cargo ship challenging. To lift the turbine onto the vessel, two 300 tonne capacity Liebherr mobile harbour cranes were used.

Stefan Stich, Bohnet fleet manager, said, "Each transport is different and some are just more challenging than others. If this is the case, we set great store by using vehicles from Scheuerle. Then we know that we are definitely on the safe side.”
