Boom time for JMS Plant Hire and Genie
By Steve Ducker29 May 2015
Hertfordshire, UK-based JMS Plant Hire has continued its investment in big booms with the purchase of a Genie SX-180.
The company recently took delivery of the boom, one of the first SX-180s in the UK, from authorised Genie dealer Access Platform Sales (APS). This latest investment by JMS follows its purchase of a Genie ZX-135/70 - the biggest articulated boom in Genie’s range - from APS earlier this year.
The SX-180 went straight out on cross rental with national chain HSS Hire, which supplied the boom to Portsmouth Demolition & Salvage. The contractor used the boom on the demolition of the tower and spire of Punshon Memorial Church in nearby Bournemouth.
The largest product in Genie’s range, the SX-180 provides a maximum platform height of 54.86 metres (180 ft) and up to 24.38 metres (80 ft) of outreach. Designed for ease of transport by truck, it weighs less than 25 tonnes.
Also Genie’s X-chassis extends to provide stability during operation; but retracts to a narrow profile for transport. The self-levelling platform has an unrestricted safe working load of 340 kg and a 3.05 metre (10ft) rotating jib for precise positioning of the platform.
Mark Jackson, founder and director of JMS Plant Hire, said: “The Genie SX-180 is a great addition to our fleet. We continue to invest in the best machines at the top end of the scale, as part of our strategy to be the national supplier of choice for big booms and scissors.
“As an authorised Genie dealer, APS could offer us an attractive lead time and pricing for the SX-180. It also has a track record of providing us with excellent customer service.”
Founded in 2000, JMS Plant Hire is one of the UK’s fastest-growing access rental companies, with a fleet of more than 1200 machines.
